Dominican Republic, Caribbean Islands

Giving Jesus His domain in the Dominican

Seven hundred miles southeast of Miami, Fla., just past the southern tip of Cuba, sits the island of Hispaniola. This island paradise was visited and explored by Columbus on his first voyage to the new world in 1492. Today, the island is divided into two tiny and separate nations: Haiti on the west and the Dominican Republic on the east.

On my recent visit to this fertile and mountainous nation, along with a group of four interested brothers from White’s Ferry Road church, I had a firsthand opportunity to see and meet the speakers for World Radio, and to get a glimpse at the wonderful church growth that has occurred over the last 40 years. I was amazed at how World Radio broadcasts have been such a significant part of that growth, which today has produced more than 125 congregations!

After arriving at the airport in Santo Domingo, the capital city, we were escorted several hours north to the small town of Mao, Valverde, where World Radio speaker Prudencio Rodríguez has preached, taught, defended, and established churches for almost 30 years. We met with several of the congregations he has established, and met many of his disciples. I came to learn that the region now has a congregation meeting in most of the small towns… and they continue expanding to more. We enjoyed witnessing three baptisms in a nearby river that Sunday morning! Prudencio airs his weekly program on a local radio station.

Later, back in Santo Domingo we met with World Radio speakers Fausto Piña Bello from La Vega and Diosdado Castillo, Louis Galán, and Federico Martínez, leaders in the local church. At an afternoon luncheon with our World Radio team, we heard story after story of how people were contacted by radio, made a phone call to the speaker to question or challenge what had been heard, and then initial contact was made for discussion and sharing of the Gospel. It is that combination of a radio voice contact, follow-up, building of a relationship with faithful workers, and the presentation of a simple Gospel that has been the key to success here and in other places around the world to make World Radio one of the most effective and influential ministries in the world. Your donations make it possible for us to help these in their effort to see that every man and every woman on earth have the opportunity to hear the Gospel in their own language! This is working, successful, and powerful. Won’t you make a donation today and aid us in helping these men keep on keeping on!
